The purpose of SPF is to promote action on global issues in areas of strategic importance to the UK and is a significant source of funding for delivery of the FCO's strategic international policy priorities. During 2007/08 most of FCO’s financing lines congregated and were channelled through the Global Opportunities Fund, now known as Strategic Programme Fund. From those the SPF RE is the single strand where Albania classifies as priority country and therefore on of our major financing lines, which contributes to 'bolster and extend the success of enlargement by supporting countries through the EU integration process, particularly in the fields of improved governance and economic growth'.

So, the current intervention priorities for Albania under this fund are: 

• To increase political transparency and good governance
• To build capacity in public administration

Current SPF RE projects in Albania are:

1. "Working together to make local government more transparent and accountable"
2. "Transparency in the implementantion of laws on assets declaration and conflicts of interest"
3. "Promoting good governance and transparency in the Tirana Property Registration Office"
4. "Monthly Assessment of Political and Economic Public Confidence in Albania"
