Funding programme guidance
In addition to the more traditional diplomatic tools, the British Embassy in Tirana, together with the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) in London, works towards achieving its objectives and strategic priorities (see below) through a number of funding programmes. Details of the financing lines available to fund projects in Albania are outlined below.
The Strategic Programme Fund (SPF) previously known as Global Opportunities Fund (GOF) is the FCO's most important Programme Budget, and is divided into strands which reflect the UK's Department Strategic Objectives (DSOs). The purpose of SPF is to promote action on global issues in areas of strategic importance to the UK. "Reuniting Europe" is one of the SPF strands under which Albania qualifies for funding as a priority country .
Diplomatic efforts to tackle drugs and organised crime are supported, where appropriate, by funds for bilateral and multilateral project work from the FCO’s Strategic Programme Fund – Drugs and Crime Programme.
Another area where the British Embassy is again active is Migration and its related issues. The Embassy through the financial support of the FCO’s Strategic Programme Fund Migration strand, aims to manage migration, protect genuine refugees, reduce abuse of the asylum system and control of UK borders against illegal immigration.
The British Embassy in Tirana has a small Devolved Fund from which we allocate money to fund specific, usually single activities under the value of £5000.

Please note: The British Embassy does not fund individual scholarships. We run in collaboration with the British Council, the Chevening Scholarship Scheme, details of which can be found at www.chevening.com.
