Where to apply

Consular Section of the British Embassy, Tirana issues only emergency passports, but these are issued only in cases of genuine and pressing emergency and are valid for only a single journey back to the UK. All other passports are issued via the British Embassy in Paris. Applications for British passports can be lodged at the British Embassy in Tirana for dispatch to the British Embassy in Paris. The process will take a minimum of 5 - 6 weeks. If you want the passport to be issued at an earlier date you will be required to pay courier fees.                                        .

How to apply

Application forms and notes can be collected or requested from British Embassy in Tirana.
Alternatively, you may also apply to the Identity and Passport Service (IPS) in person whilst visiting the UK. In order to do this you need to make an appointment with IPS in the UK and you must provide an address in the UK to which the passport may be posted. Applicants will have to available at this address to sign for the receipt of the passport. Please note that IPS do not accept applications by post or e-mail if you live abroad.

How to pay

Passport fees must be paid at the British Embassy Tirana, Consular Section the day of the application.
If you were born on or before 2nd September 1929, you may be entitled to a free 10-year passport.
From 1st April 2008 no refunds will be issued for unsuccessful or fraudulent passport applications.

What to submit

To apply for a UK passport in Albania you must submit a completed application form and 2 recent photographs.

In addition your current passport is required when you submit the application for your new passport.  The Consular Section in Tirana will retain a copy of your passport and the original will be returned to the applicant.  On collection of the new passport the applicant must again submit the current passport for cancellation.

Processing your passport application

The consular staff in Paris, will not be able to process your application or there may be a delay issuing your passport if:

• You have used the wrong form or completed it incorrectly
• You have not provided the correct documentation
