Our Embassy in Tirana
The British Embassy is responsible for developing and maintaining links between Britain and Albania. HM Ambassador Fiona McIlwham , is in charge of the Embassy. The Embassy has around thirty-five staff, one third of whom are British, the other two thirds of whom are Albanian. Our Consular and Visa sections provide services to British people in Albania and issue visa’s for people wishing to visit Britain. Our Political Section work to promote political links between the United Kingdom and Albania on a bilateral level. Our Management staff are responsible for the day to day running of the Embassy. The Press and Public Affairs Section informs people in Albania about British policies and values and provides services for journalists and for those with an interest in Britain. We also work closely with the British Council Albania on cultural and educational issues.
Mission Statement
The British Embassy in Tirana represents Britain in the whole of Albania. It works not only for the Foreign and Commonwealth Office, but all relevant Government departments including the Ministry of Defence, and the Department for International Development (DFID). The British Council represents British education and culture in Albania and is fully associated with the Embassy.
We are here to
- Support British policy in South East Europe, by encouraging Albania's integration into Euro-Atlantic structures and her role in regional cooperation,
- Develop bilateral contacts and promote Britain in Albania,
- Contribute to the development of Albania, through UK Government funding programmes; and through cooperation with the international organisations (e.g. the European Commission, International Monetary Fund, the UN and World Bank) to which Britain contributes funds,
- Help British nationals living in or visiting Albania,
- Implement Britain's entry clearance policy by fairly and correctly operating a visa issuing service,
- Promote British values through educational and cultural partnerships,
- Provide an efficient service to all our customers, while ensuring that we obtain good value for the money which the British taxpayer spends in Albania.
