HMA Speech at CTFI conference to launch “Watchdog” report on assets declarations (24/10/2009)
The British Ambassador spoke on Saturday 24 October at a conference in Tirana to launch the latest "Watchdog" report by the Centre for Transparency and Freedom of Information, which has investigated the annual assets declarations by senior public officials.
In her speech, the Ambassador stressed that this kind of scrutiny - by civil society and the media - is a key weapon in the fight against corruption. The 2009 European Commission Annual Progress Report on Albania talks about a “culture of impunity” in public life in Albania and the urgent need to establish the convincing track-record in anti-corruption cases. She noted that no one could be above the law.
