Anglican Bishop Leads Pilgrimage to Albania (03/09/2009)
Bishop Geoffrey Rowell, the Church of England's Bishop of Gibraltar in Europe, and a group of Anglican pilgrims from across Europe, visited the British Ambassador Fiona McIlwham at her Residence this evening. Bishop Geoffrey is leading the pilgrimage to Albania and Macedonia, which has been organised by the Anglican and Eastern Churches Association.
During their meeting, the Ambassador spoke to the pilgrims about the relationship between Albania and the UK, and the current situation in Albania.
The pilgrims had the chance to ask the Amabssador about issues ranging from Albania's communist past to the role of religion in modern Albanian society.
During the Pilgrims' time in Albania, they have already visited the National Historical Museum and National Art Gallery, and later they will meet Bishop Andon of the Albanian Orthodox Church. After Tirana, they will spend time in Elbasan and then Korca, visiting the new Cathedral, National Museum of Medieval Art, the 13th Century Church of our Lady at Mborja, Voskopoja and Boboshtice.
This is Bishop Geoffrey's third visit to Albania. On his first visit, in March 2008, he held an Anglican Easter Communion Service at the Roman Catholic Cathedral in Tirana, and met the then British Ambassador Fraser Wilson.
